Read the whole article. She currently owes $22k in back taxes. I'm not saying that the judge is right, but things aren't always what the headline states.

Two things you can be sure of:

1) The ruling is technically and legally correct, and will stand.

2) She will become the poster child for a movement to vilify and punish the banks.

Can't blame the banks on this one as it was a sale over taxes owed.

Where does it state she owes $22K? The article makes it sound more of a legal technicality. And basing receipt of notice on the delivery of first class mail? I've had my share of miss directed mail.

Well at least the new owner is offering to sell it back to her.

"Battisti’s lawyer Ed Santillan said his client would lose about $200,000 in equity if she accepts the sale proceeds and that she wants to keep her home. Battisti said Lewis, the new homeowner, has offered to return it to her for a “ridiculous” $260,000."

Nice way to "flip" a house.

Where do you see this? I've reread the article a number of times, but the highest number I saw, either in the article or the sidebar, is $235.

Yeah, I think she owed $235. I don't know if a judge can overturn this ruling. The amount isn't the issue, it is the law that is in the way. What was this lady thinking, not to pay that? She is going to be out over $100K, not to mention having to move. Now their are two blood sucking attorneys involved all excited knowing they can get in there and make money from both sides. Wow, what a mess! If you have a bill on your home like that, you better pay it or you get hit from banks and of course the attorney brigade.

Wait a minute here. I don't think you can blame the judge for the laws in place. What can a judge really do if the law is stacked against people in their homes. The judge can only go by the law in front of them and I have a feeling in this case the law is very clear with no room for negotiation. The real winner in this whole thing is the guy who bought the home at auction. You gotta have no heart and be one really cold person, but man that is one heck of a profit on that deal. Of course he has some attorney he has to pay, but that bill won't be near the profit that he is going to make.
