I have the real answer, Pittsburgh is:

4.3% American Samoa
5.7% Hawaii
15% American Southwest
15% Southern California
10% Tex-Mex
10% Cuba
5% Alaska
10% Deep South
10% Upper Peninsula
15% Secret Sauce, patented by Heinz

In all seriousness, check out the links to the threads sealie posted.

My opinion? Although not 100% in any category (the way New York City is pure East Coast, for example), I can see Pittsburgh having elements of Northeast (look at our colonial history, and where Megabus' routes from Pittsburgh go to) and Midwest, with some Appalachian Mountains marinaded in, and slight garnish of various other things. You can say that the Pittsburgh metro is a transition that is both yet neither. It reminds me somewhat of how 311 and Faith No More aren't in one musical genre, but are hybrids.

I wasn't even going to bother reading this thread, but when I saw it had gone to three pages I thought I might as well take a look. I'm gratified to see this umpteenth iteration getting the serious discussion it deserves...

20% Spiritan Catholic University;
20% Blighted Mon River town;
20% Touristy funicular;
and 20% utility company.

LOL!!! Yeah, I've seen that one before. Discussions of where Texas, and Oklahoma belong can get heated as well.

Ever since this thread was started a few days ago, I have been up late at night trying to get the answer to this question. I have such an identity crisis because I live in a city that nobody knows what we are. Then who am I? I..I just can't take it!
