Gawker is holding a competition for America's Ugliest Accent and Pittsburgh is in the running: America's Ugliest Accent, Round One: Boston, Baltimore, L.A., Chicago

"Sixteen American cities have been chosen and seeded according to an authoritative and scientific evaluation of ugliness. The reward for the winner of the accent tournament (your city/region/if you self-identify as that accent-haver) is not only pride and a pat on the back from me at the Gawker office, extended through a very long pole. You will also be entitled to calling the cell phone of editor-in-chief Max Read for one twenty-four hour period until the entirety of Ulysses has been read into his voicemail inbox. We will preserve your accent on a CD-R and bury it in a time capsule in an undisclosed location beneath the New York City streets, to be discovered by our alien Californian ancestors far in the ugly future."

Unrelated, but funny video of Pittsburgher Jeff Goldblum doing an ad for GE light bulbs: “Tim and Eric” directed this lightbulb ad for GE, starring Jeff Goldblum, and it's awesome - Boing Boing

What about a city in New Jersey? Or Brooklyn? Or any NYC accent? Or Fargo? They're much worse!

I think a Chicago accent is so much worse than Boston. So nasal and irritating sounding.

Admittedly, I hated a Boston accent in my youth, but living for six years in Massachusetts (albeit Western Mass, but with friends from the Boston area) I kind of got used to it.

I think Southern/redneck accents are much more irritating than any Northern urban accent. Not the pleasant Jan Hooks (RIP) style Southern... but the kind you hear from Louie Gohmert and Baptist preachers.
