I know I'm going to get some negativity, but my son is turning 3 in December and I wanted to have a birthday party for him. Do y'all have any venue suggestions? I can't have it at home, our apartment is tiny and he has a slew of cousins. I wanted something different than Chuckie Cheese

Why would people be negative about it?

At that age, you could try the Children's Museum or Gymkhana in Point Breeze.

Really?
Why would you get hassled about throwing a birthday party for your child?

How many people?

Moby has two great ideas. What area of town? Or does that not matter?

It's your kid, have a party if you want!

I think I have been to a birthday party there. You might get pooped on, but it was pretty neat and the kids had fun.

The zoo/aquarium do parties year-round, but I think you have to book well in advance.

ETA: Anyone who would be negative about you wanting your 3 year old to have a nice birthday party is a real jerk.

Here are some links:
Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium
Ages 2-10; weekends only Sept-May
The National Aviary - Bird-Day Parties
No ages given
Childrens Museum
No ages given
gymkhana » Parties at Monroeville
The other Gymkhanas state ages 4-16, this one is 2-16.

There is the Carnegie Science Center, that might be a little too old though:

on a more serious note, gymkhana in plum is a pretty good venue for kids. we had one there, they blew up some huge inflatable tunnel to go along with the zip line and trampolines. had a seperate room for pizza and cake and presents.

this was a few years ago..before they started catering to the 'my kids are going to be in the olympics' crowd but i would think birthday parties haven't changed.
