Today we learned "Uber has 'cleaned out' the Robotics Institute".

Uber is headquarted in San Francisco, CA.

We also know Google has a significant presence in Pittsburgh after laying the groundwork at CMU.

Google is headquartered in Mountain View, CA.

Soon we'll learn that Silicon Valley owns Pittsburgh's entire computer science and robotics industry. The jobs will continue to be located here but the profits will be sent back to California.

Is everyone okay with that?

The workers wont be sending their salaries back to California which will be good for private businesses here, the city coffers as well as the state, so yea, sounds like a positive to me.

Yes, as long as there are jobs and people paying taxes here. Why wouldn't we want powerful companies moving into Pittsburgh? We most likely won't have big companies wanting to have a corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh. We have a very poor business climate and taxed to death. We are happy to have a little branch or arm, but know we will never have a company of size relocate here.

The profits go to the shareholders. So Pittsburghers should buy up Uber and Google stock.

This is a huge win. The National Robotics Center isn't just going to close up shop and fold. They'll re-staff, and we'll be +50 new robotics scientists in town.

Also, welcome to the board ChartWord! We needed another random troll round these parts.

You have to check carefully that they aren't just old robotic scientists with salvage titles and the odometers rolled back.

I think the profits should be sent to Ohio

Of course it is better to have companies headquartered in Pittsburgh than elsewhere, but it is also better to have high tech jobs in Pittsburgh then elsewhere.
