maybe when the economy starts booming again pittsburgh can finally start building some new hotels and apartment buildings

"Welfare reform" of 1996 also made participation rates drop

that's like asking what is the point of keeping track of economic statistics

the point of this thread is to make sure people are aware of local economic reality and not deluded by the "everything is awesome" endless hype about new hotels and restaurants and real estate developments

That's a blanket statement that can be applied to every city. It wouldn't be a city without ups and downs. We could scrutinize many topics in any city and find a negative to go along with the positive.
