I don't think they'll be reviving the contest.

The Post Gazette ran a contest for a considerable time, at least through the 1970's, where readers would send in their SSN's and the paper would publish them, giving the holders a chance to claim cash prizes.

Just don't see this as a viable marketing ploy in 2015.

I didn't get an SSN until I was 15, that was the way it was usually done back in the day. Went downtown to the SS office on Penn Avenue with 3 other teenagers, came back with the card the same day.

It just wasn't the high security about the numbers we see today.

Looking through old newspapers is always fascinating. The Gimbel's "Date Mate" ad on page 3... matching short sleeve shirts for hubby and wife. And the "hers" is available in sizes 10-16.

That's when women were women :-)

SSN's were never meant to be a means of identification like they are today.

The way sizes have changed a 1950s 10-16 was likely today's 4-10.

And I agree that looking at old newspapers is fantastic. I am intrigued by the advertised Relaxlon Massage Table--It oscillates! Vibrates! Conditions! Hmm...
