A lot of affordable housing is for the 25-30k per year earners - especially those who have 1-2 kids.

It is also a lot of seniors living off of pensions or social security.

I have the opinion that not everybody is cut out to be a homeowner. It requires ongoing maintenance, a nest egg, etc. I don't say this as a landlord for personal reasons (most if not all of my tenants are likely to buy a house in the next 10 years), but because if you are living paycheck to paycheck, you likely are not be able to repair a roof or to replace a furnace.

Dollar Bank is one of the biggest lenders to members that complete the program. How will you obtain a home mortgage if you are financially strapped with zero or bad credit? PHFA assists with credit recovery and financial planning.
And as I have said, there is already affordable homes to be owned in Pittsburgh. We aren't San Francisco. Get a job. Two jobs if need be. Work nights and weekend if that's what it takes. Don't consistently screw up. Pay your bills on time and you will have better credit and be able to afford an inexpensive home in Pittsburgh. If you can't afford the bills, then don't rack them up. Don't punish middle class people who did things the right way by taking more of their money to hand over to those who continue to screw up.

Now, I certainly realize that this is easier said then done.

You know, time was (before Reagan -- ask your parents) the marginal tax rate paid by very high earners were much, much higher than those paid by those with middle class incomes. We could try that again. It seemed to work much better.
