Now that the High School is closed...does anyone know if the millage is going to decrease for 2017/2018?

I don't know the definite answer but my guess is probably not if Wilkinsburg is paying tuition to PPS for Wilkinsburg High School students to attend Westinghouse or any of their other schools.

What an interesting question, but we all know the answer will not be favorable for homeowners in Wilkinsburg. The current school millage rate is 32.6300 in Wilkinsburg and the current millage rate for the city of Pittsburgh school is 9.84. That being said for ever $100,000 value of a home a Wilkinsburg home will pay $3263 in school tax alone and if you are in the city of Pittsburgh you would pay $984. Wow what a crazy area we live in.

Plus:

Pittsburgh City Millage is 8.06 and Wilkinsburg is 14.0. That's for city services (roads, police, fire, trash, pools, parks, etc).

That's $806 for a 100k assessment in the city and $1400 in Wilkinsburg.

They both pay 4.73 for Allegheny County.

Don't City residents pay a 1% wage tax as well specifically to the SD?

1% to the city, 2% to the school district.

Still, most people would come out ahead in terms of taxes living in Pittsburgh instead of Wilkinsburg.

I think you can say that about every twp/boro in the area with the possible exception of Clairton and McKeesport.
