According to Zillow, the average list price on US homes is pretty close to $300K now ($289K). So $200K should be a well below average house. What examples surprise you?

Keep in mind the whole go country didn’t lose 1/2 it’s population and is in the rust belt. Many places are new and thriving. Also our taxes are insane compared to most of the US. Prices are high by Pittsburgh’s standards.

Yeah, homes used to be dirt cheap here. No disagreement. It amazes me that we still haven't reached the US average in prices though.

Taxes? I guess that's all relative. We have a high tax rate but low real estate values. So that just cancels out. You still have a very low monthly payment (mortgage plus taxes plus insurance) for what you get. Where I grew up, that $600K West View house would be worth a few million and have annual property taxes around $75K.

I mean that mathematically it cancels out as far as one's monthly payment is concerned. (You seem to have ignored the rest of the paragraph.)

You think $200k is expensive for O'Hara or any decent middle class neighborhood? What year are you visiting us from, 1990?

I don't really think the commute to Oakland or shadyside is bad at all. You have easy access to 279/65 and are only a few miles from downtown. its a much better commute than from say wexford, mccandless or cranberry and plenty of people commute from those areas daily.
That makes sense, there are things in the East End that other parts of the area just don't have at the scale or at all compared to there. It does surprise me how cheap homes go for sale here in what isn't a high crime or shady area.

For an 800 sq ft house with a scenic view of a freeway on/off ramp and a PennDot parking lot, and which sold for $105k only 3 years ago? Yep, that is pricey even for O'Hara.

There are very inexpensive homes in O'Hara for sure. Some are under Rt. 28. O'Hara has many prices of homes from $90K to millions.

The median us home price is 226k. You’re talking about houses in a top school district, 9 miles outside of a major city.

People who think Pittsburgh is expensive either lack context, hate Pittsburgh or are stuck in a previous decade.
