It's actually not that simple. Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is supposed to be a nonprofit, but they've done a pretty crap job securing money from foundations and through direct donations - instead operating on more of a fee for service model - which is part of why they're in such a cash crunch.

I agree but when mismanagement is involved, that changes things. From what I understand, this is a big part of the problem.

"The former controller at the Pittsburgh Center for Arts & Media alleges in a federal lawsuit that she was fired for documenting nearly $250,000 in unnecessary expenditures approved by the nonprofit’s former leader, Dorinda Sankey."

That’s an absolute shame.

I retract my previously stated “Bingo”.

Another cherry picked quote from the article:

Quote:
The lawsuit is also an age discrimination claim. The complaint alleges that Ms. Sankey fired Ms. Medina, then gave her job to John Fleming, a male employee who was then age 25.

Looks like corruption. It seems like a lot of things are poisoned with corruption around here. What a shame.

It was a dump.

Yes thank you. I will tell you I have lived three other places before coming back here. You don’t see the level of corruption and theft you see from non profits and the public sector in the Pittsburgh area.

In another thread I talked about Pittsburgh contracting out it’s fire bureau services to neighboring municipalities. I was told by somebody that worked for the state fire commissioner, it’s a known fact in the volunteer fire service there are a good number of folks dipping their hands into those donation pots and pocketing the money. Hence the resistance of volunteer fire departments to merger or go to paid. He estimated at least a third to as high as 3 quarters of the volunteer fire departments in western pa have somebody lining their pockets and taking out of the non profit donation pot.

That’s pretty scary. I remember seeing a number of volunteer fire departments make the news with folks stealing. I think there was one in baldwin that they closed the department to stop it a few years ago.

Sad that we accept corruption in our region more than other places.

Sorry. I just can't accept the proposition that Pittsburgh is somehow the epicenter of graft and corruption.
Greed and dishonesty are universal afflictions.
