Once I relocate to my a location (looking at western PA and three other states right now) in mid to late 2021, I am planning to use Solar panels for back up power when the grid goes down. Planning an off grid system. Not that big but enough to keep a fridge going and computers and perhaps a TV etc.

Is the Pittsburgh area friendly for users of Solar panels or do they place restrictions on their use? I know the lack of sun will be an impediment to efficient solar power creation, but I can compensate by using a couple more panels and battery backup.

Why spend the money for a backup system? You can buy a whole house natural gas generator for less and you won't have to rely on the sun.

I'm not a fan of natural gas. Too volatile to put it bluntly. Right now I heat my home with Kerosene and Electric.
