Have any developers actually blocked the trail in final completion of their project or is this a theoretical possibility, but developers have actually incorporated it into their design so far?

I know parts have been closed periodically during construction, but they have all reopened afterwards from what I remember.

For river life information. Best source is their site (https://riverlifepgh.org/) and YouTube page https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8c...pKdI9UbSLPZcaQ. Compleating the loop video aired 4 months ago and goes over their plans in good details.

Has the Libert Avenue upgrade commenced? Are there any thoughts of a full Penn Ave rebuild in the area.

This would be cool! I love this stuff. Also read the top 10 and other projects they listed, including extending light rail to Bellevue on one wing and Ross on the other! They also mention in the top 10 would be opening up the Allentown light rail line again and extend it to Penn Station (8 to 10 million to do). However, I feel the Library line will be cut

Port Authority floats idea of aerial cable car to link Hill, Strip districts

Implementing all 18 transit projects in Port Authority’s long-range plan over the next 25 years would cost an estimated $3 billion to $3.8 billion, according to a draft of the plan presented to a board committee Thursday.

One part of that plan will consider installing a suspended cable car system to move passengers between the Hill District and the Strip District.

The draft, available at https://nextransit.network, is the first time the agency has released any projected cost figures for the plan known as NEXTransit. The agency released a proposed list of top 10 projects in May.

this got some consideration few years back. its exciting to think people are working on it and moving it forward!

edit-

from the article:

• Studying whether to reopen the Allentown line of the light rail system, now used only in emergencies if other lines are closed, to go to Downtown Pittsburgh and extend to Penn Station and the East Busway. $8 million to 10 million.

I hope. i dont know why, i just 'feel' allentown and arlington and have an affinity for them. i dont think i would live there, but i just imagine what amazingly beautiful neighborhoods they can be, or once were, in Arlington's case. this would help people get to the flats or downtown so easily, and maybe get some out of their cars (saving gas, reducing pollution...)

'What Pittsburgh is becoming': Redevelopment project begins to turn former Etna steel mill into tech hub”

A blocklong, three-story former steel mill sits in the heart of Etna — a symbol of the city’s industrial past. But now the building is set to become a hub for technology and robotics.

At a redevelopment kickoff event Thursday morning, elected officials, business owners and community members discussed the progress of the 51 Bridge Street project. The event happened inside the construction zone, where caution tape and heavy equipment lined the mostly gutted interior.

Tom Sabol, a partner with New York-based developer The AM Group and a Pittsburgh resident, said the company is hoping to finish redeveloping the building by the end of the year and have tenants moved in next summer. He said they are “flexible” on the number of tenants — as few as one or as many as four.

“In this community, generations of innovators and entrepreneurs have built the infrastructure that others may now use to create the Etna of the future,” said Scott Wolkowitz, another partner with the AM Group. “We are inspired by this history and responsibility, and we follow in all the many footprints that created this community.”

Yea I hope Allentown line goes live. The population is increasing on that side of Pittsburgh as well. We have such a unique transportation here in Pittsburgh, I hope people use it more.

“PITTSBURGH, PA — The city is getting its first indoor skating rink. The Penguins will construct one at the Hunt Armory on Emerson Avenue in Shadyside that should debut by Thanksgiving.

The Penguins will use as the headquarters of their hockey diversity program designed to advance familiarity and skills of the sport to minority youth players in city neighborhoods. The rink also will be open for public recreational skating and will support local city hockey programs, including Central Catholic and Chatham University.

The rink, which will be operational from November through March, also will be home to a middle school hockey development program to be established with the Pittsburgh Public Schools and Sacred Heart Elementary School.“
