Trying to remember a record store in Oakland in the early 1970’s. Its main feature was to occasionally have a sale with 3 albums for $10

maybe Jerry's? But that was in the 1980s, that I knew of....not sure if this store I'm talking about existed further back into the early 1970s.

You're thinking of Heads Together in Squirrel Hill. 4 for $10 records in the early 70s.

hmmm....but Jerrys DID have a 3/$10 thing, i am almost sure.

Heads Together - wow, talk about stimulating long dormant brain cells. Havent heard that name in decades.
If you were to ask me, i would have guessed that was a hair salon, though.

i'll think about it over lunch at Rhoda's.

oddly, I never went IN heads together. parents would not allow it cuz of the whole 'heads thing' and the counterculture.

but if I am not mistaken, it was where jerry is today. my own record store (for sale btw!) models after jerrys. his main price is $5 per, so was I. I dont emulate those in the area who are 10-15-20 for just about every ROTM record...

Probably National Record Mart. They had a store in the 3700 block of Forbes Ave in Oakland.

Yeah, the original Heads Together was a basement location (they called it the Underground Mall) at 1914 Murray Ave. I think it was still at that location until at least 1980. If you wanted a water bed, incense, bong, or tied dyed t-shirt, that was the place to go.

Now that is a blast from the past. What a cool place that was.

I'm pretty sure there was another bigger record store on Murray Av back then, but I can't picture the storefront or recall the name.

It smelled bad in there. What was that smell? It wasn’t pot. All the hippie places in that era had that same smell.
