Does anybody know what a nusre (RN) makes per hour in Pit. I have 6 years exp. I'm looking for info on full time hospital jobs... NOT per diem, agency, contract or travel nursing.
I'm trying to get an idea of the comparison in pay between Pit and where I live.
Thanks for the help.

Good question for a person just coming out of school it's some where between 20-25.
Try upmc's website >>> UPMC Jobs, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA, USA <<<< Good luck.

They make a good wage in this area. I have several friends that are RN's and they all net well over 40k a year, sometimes over 50k, depending on their overtime

According to the link, the starting salary is $19.70/hr, or about $39,000/yr (assuming 2000 hrs/yr). Of course, overtime and shift/weekend differentials add to it.

I just started working in Pittsburgh, I have a bachelors degree and six years experience I make $24.80/hr working for UPMC. Which is crappy pay, I don't know where you work right now but I made $7/hr more in Portland, OR. Our rent is only $150 less, utilities are double here, groceries are triple, a wage tax which I have never heard of and a local wage service tax. A new grad starts out at UPMC for $18 a hour, I made that six years ago in Boise, ID as a new graduate nurse

I work in metro Denver, in a doctor's office. I looked up the starting salary for Denver Health Medical, and it is $24.50/hr for an AA degree plus one year exper. They did not have any openings for new grads at the moment. I also looked at the University of Colorado Hospital, and they don't post their salary scale on-line, nor do most of the hospitals around here. But it's common knowledge starting salary for a new grad is about $22-25/hr. An experienced nurse can make $30/hr easily.

Housing to buy is more expensive here, but rentals are about the same (as Pittsburgh), and virtually everything else is very comparable in price. We have no wage taxes here, do have sales taxes that vary by community. Ours is about 8%.

OMG RN's only make 20 bucks an hour is Pittsburgh? Are you sure? Maybe you are thinking LVN? I am a respiratroy therapist in CA. I make 25 per hour and that is on the lower scale. RN's make well over 40 per hour here. LVN make about 20. I know the cost of living is different but man that is a serious difference. I am considering moving out there and I am worried I will not get good pay. UPMC listed starting pay at 21 for a RT. RN's must make more than that. Crazy!

Check the link. I'm almost certain that was for an RN.

You can blame UPMC for the low salaries, they are just about the only game in town and can pretty much dictate wages. But there are a lot of openings from what I understand. My wife worked for about 25 years at AGH before it got decimated by its CEO. Had enough of corporate nursing and switched to Cosmetic Surgery doing botox and laser peels. She and her employers are making tons of money, and with Pgh's aging Boomer population, there are more customers everyday.

If I had a nursing degree, that's the route I'd take.

You can also get into nursing placement agencies, they loan out their nurses to hospitals and such that are short staffed for a day or a shift, they generally make a little bit more money.
