Hello, this is my first post on city data. I'm seriously considering a move to pittsburgh from brooklyn ny in the next year or 2. I was wondering about the neighborhoods w/in the 15226 zip code. I just wanted to ask what is the quality of life in this area, is public trans to the CBD reliable?, and what of the amenities in this area (ex. public schools, parks, shopping, restaurants etc.) Any advice pro or con much appreciated and thx for taking the time to read this thread. All the best.

You will have full access to our Light Rail Train system and it will take you right into the heart of the business district.

In my opinion, the area is very blue collar, laid back.

Are you looking to buy or rent? You can buy a house ($100K range) in my neighborhood and have everything close to you.

I live in Mt. Lebo, but it should be Dormont....I'm a block from McFarland, but other than the Mt. Lebo taxes I'm quite happy. There are two parks within walking range to my house. You can walk to "downtown" Mt. Lebanon or even the "uptown"

Grocery stores are 5 minutes away (Giant Eagle & Kuhn's)

The "T" is four blocks (Dormont Junction)

All in all it's a nice area, but there are plenty of rentals along McFarland you can rent. The commute to downtown is 10 minutes non-rush hour and 15-20 rush-hour (If you weave through Dormont to the Liberty Tunnels (morning communt...no idea about afternoon))

Yeah, you could expand your search into 15216, which hits Beechview (where I live),other sections of Dormont and Mt. Lebanon, and maybe a bit of Greentree/Scott Twp. They're similar areas.

I LOVED Dormont. I looked at a couple of places there over the summer, but we ended up moving to Moon Twp because it worked out better price wise. Dormont has a special feel to it, it has a lot of character and the T is the most reliable transportation in the city and generally a lot cleaner and less crowded than the buses even though it does get kinda crowded during rush hour. Dormont would probably be the closest neighborhood to NYC in Pittsburgh. A lot of things are in walking distance, it has its own business district with a lot of mom and pop stores, its close to the city so it has a inner suburb feel, and the primary public transit is by rail.
