My family is relocating to Pittsburgh-- my oldest son is in First Grade and has Special needs. He is currently on an IEP with inclusion, but a full time aide in the classroom, Special Ed, Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapy services. I am seeking advice from those familiar with Pittsburgh on school districts that would be "friendly" working with children and families. While I know they all must work with them from a legal point of view, I have found to date that there are some districts that you spend all of your time fighting with to get the basics, vs. others that start from a place of understanding and work with you to do what is best for the child. If anyone has any advice on districts that meet this description or that don't meet it at all, I would appreciate it!

I don't know too much about the different school districts and how they handle special needs. My son is 5 and has PDD NOS but is still in preschool. A friend of mine has two learning disabled children in school with the Montour school district and besides some minor trouble, she is happy. Are you looking in the city or suburbs?

I don't know if you need at home services, speech and other therapies but they are easy to come by and fully funded by the state. This includes a TSS and/or BSC to go into the classroom with your child, if needed. This is one of the only places that offers such support.

If you want to let me know where you might be residing, I could ask around to see if anyone knows about the school district in your area.
