This is a big deal for Pennsylvania since our state has one of the highest rates of lifetime sentences for minors.

Personally, I'm getting sick and tired of the Supreme Court butting into the state's business. Isn't anything not listed in the Constitution supposed to be left up to the states to decide? Yet, the Supreme Court feels it's their duty to weigh in on issues about abortion, gay marriage, guantanamo, etc. Not long ago they ruled that we could no longer execute criminals that committed a crime when they were a minor. Now we can't give them a life sentence either? Geez, where are MY rights here? What's the point in voting if the big issues are always up to whatever the Supreme Court decides? This is what's wrong with America. Americans have become weak because their power has been taken over by state governments, the federal government, the supreme court. I would rather put my faith in the good people of Pennsylvania. A jury of your peers...that used to be how we did things.

It doesn't really matter because Pennsylvania is planning to make changes to the life sentencing of minors. I'm just glad to see some action being taken on any level.

I believe that life sentences wihtout parole for minors is cruel and unusual punishment. It's a human rights issue.

That's the most overused phrase of the past decade. Anytime someone doesn't get what they want they claim it's a human rights issue. Years ago human rights violations included slavery, torture, genocide, but today putting a murderer away in prison for life is a human rights violation. Gay marriage...human rights issue. Free housing for the poor...human rights issue. Universal health care...human rights issue. Apparently socialism has a negative connotation, so we've now replaced that with "human rights." If this was 1785 and a minor was convicted of rape or murder he would have been hung before the next sunrise and nobody would have said a word about it. But, I guess we're a lot more progressive than those lame Founding Fathers were.

Yes, but for good or ill the Fourteenth Amendment wrote an awful lot into the Constitution.

My roommate's father was murdered by a juvenile 2.5 years ago. I am hoping that he receives some sort of "cruel and unusual punishment."

As Huckleberry said, one's age does not make his or her actions any 'better' or less meaningful.

You seem to have no sympathy for other people besides your own. I am not saying in just the case of minors going to jail forever, but it seems like in your views on just about everything. I personally have no sympathy for people who can't open their minds and look at all sides of the issues.

And just what is that little comment supposed to mean? I am showing sympathy for the VICTIMS of these thugs. Why should I show sympathy for a rapist or murderer? I could care less if they happened to be 16 or 17 when they committed the crime. You can question my sympathy all day and I really don't care. You don't know me, so your opinion of me is meaningless. I'll take the high road and not question your sympathy towards the victims of these crimes.
