I love the idea that Highland Park and Point Breeze are "ghetto". You might as well throw in some other "ghetto" neighborhoods with lots of bus riders, like Shadyside and Squirrel Hill.

Incidentally, if all the people riding the bus were driving instead, the rush-hour routes into major commuting centers like Downtown and Oakland would become much more congested, and conversely if we could convert a substantial number of current drivers into bus riders congestion would be eased. That is one of the many ways in which people who are not bus riders--in this case many drivers--can nonetheless benefit from the bus system, and would benefit from an upgraded bus system with increased ridership.

Yes, I do. Definately not to the worst parts of town (bus routes).

The "worst parts of town" naturally including Downtown, all of the East End, and so on.

Bus routes, as in, half of Allegheny County?

Seriously, what's your beef? Are you one of those livid public transportation haters?

There is a whole media/political industry devoted to triggering and maintaining resentments of various others. It tends to come out in a not-necessarily-coherent mish-mash, but public transit riders are definitely on the list, and bus riders are considered the worst of that sorry lot.

Hm, I suppose that could be in play here, but that doesn't explain the benefits of that sort of posting. I wish I understood it, but instead all I can do is (mostly) ignore it.

Pittsburgh is in the top ten cities nationwide as far as per capita transit ridership, and we have (I think) the 15th largest transit system. The bus and rail system serves almost all areas of Allegheny County and carries the rich as well as the poor. That's what it's supposed to do. If everyone who rides the bus and T drove, there wouldn't be any place to put the cars in downtown and Oakland. It's a public service that benefits everyone whether you use it or not.
