My husband and I are considering a home near the Regent Square theater. We don't have a car. We work in Lawrenceville and downtown Pittsburgh and can now (from where we live now) walk to work or easily catch the 87 to get to our jobs. We like the home we're looking at but wonder how hard it would be to get to work from the Regent Square area in the mornings. It looks like the 61 bus could get us as far as somewhere in Oakland, and then we'd have to catch another bus? Anyone from that neighborhood go our way/know bus routes or tips that would make getting to work easier?

Thank you.

You'd have pretty frequent buses there - 61 to Oakland and 54C to L'ville....for a one seat ride, you could take the P71 and get off at herron station on the busway and walk to L'Ville...

The P71 only runs durning rushhours so you're schedule for commuting will be a little tighter than what you have now, and for Downtown the P71 is express to Downtown via the Busway...

The 61 also continues on to downtown after hitting Oakland.

Where will you have to go in Lawrenceville? The 93 might be a better transfer to pick up in Oakland instead of the 54, depending on where exactly you're going.

EDIT: Oh I didn't even think about using the 64! That way you could transfer in Squirrel Hill instead of Oakland. That would definitely cut down on the commuting time, and it serves both Penn and Butler in Lawrenceville.

for Downtown the P71 would be quicker via the Busway than the 61A or B

Thank you both. I work at the Chi;dren's Hospital, with shifts starting at either 7 a.m. or 7 p.m....

In the morning I believe you could also take the P71 to Negley Station, then take the 64. In the evening I think it would have to be a 61 to the 64. But either way, I think picking up the 64 is the way to go.

Edit: Oh, and the P71 is great for commuting Downtown, assuming the times would work.

You can transfer from the 61B in Squirrel Hill and then get on the 64 to Lawrenceville.

Thank you all again for your help. As an update: We decided on another apartment and neighborhood. The landlord of the apartment we were looking to rent has too many bad reviews online, so we scrapped the idea. Thank you all again, though.

You're welcome. Do you mind me asking if the landlord in question was Regent Square Rentals? They have a bad rep here.
