Well, Giant Eagle may have a monopoly in the region, but the bigger fact is that grocery shopping is so common, that we've been to all these places and we know what's good or bad that it's something we all could relate to.

You know, there is a decent case to be made that Erie more falls into the Great Lakes region than whatever we want to call the region in which Pittsburgh is located.

BrianTH, you're right, but geographically, it's still Western PA, mind you Northwestern PA.

There are a ton of businesses in the Erie area starting with Great Lakes. I've always thought of it in that region.

Sure, but I guess I would suggest that means Western PA contains bits of at least couple distinct regions. And vice-versa: I'd put Erie in with Cleveland, but other parts of Ohio in with Pittsburgh.

I know I'm changing subjects here but is it just me or does anyone associate most of the Ohio River valley of Ohio and West Virginia as an adjunct of Pittsburgh? I'm talking as far south as Point Pleasant and Huntington, West Virginia.

I hate that I have to have that stupid card to get the sales prices.

Ever since I bought a new car, I never get the discounts. My card was on my old keychain.

As much as I hate WalMart, I'd like to see them compete with GE.

Absolutely. In fact here is a Wikipedia entry basically supporting that notion:

Talk about a thread hijacking! :-)

GE's prices are only comparable to other places when you buy their sales items. The only time I have found "good" pricing for GE is using coupons on sale items, especially when they double the sub $1 coupons. My next door neighbor is a GE store manager and he only shops at GE when he absolutley has too (even with his discount).

Also, if it is a corporate store, asking a store manager about stocking a certain product will get you no where. Stock carried by their corporate stores is determined by some statistics and marketing jockey back in the corporate office, not what the local customers tell the store manager they want.

If any of you that are out near Jeannette, PA on Rte. 30 or are just traveling through, stop by Dellalo's for your lunchmeat or cheese. Some of the best product and prices in town. They have opened up a new, large produce section as well that is well stocked. Everything is cut to order.
