Any other guy ever notice this? Numerous public restrooms around here are either totally devoid of partitions between urinals, or they've been "torn out", as is evident by the remaining holes in the wall where they were once anchored in place.

Case in point: On more than once occasion I've noticed that the partitions were removed in recently renovated men's rooms. Essentially implying that the establishment recently hired a contractor to renovate the restroom, the contractor installed privacy partitions between the urinals, and immediately after the completion of the renovation, they were promptly removed....for whatever reason.

I find this very odd. Personally, I don't mind a little privacy while I'm standing there taking a leak. It's highly disturbing, awkward, and uncomfortable to have another guy standing there beside you staring at YOUR "junk" while he's also relieving himself. I've had this happen before, which is why I'd much rather use a urinal with a partition. Once it's happened to you one time, you really don't wanna be in that predicament again.

This post may sound funny, and it kind of is...but really, it's not. Seriously, why tear the damn things out of the wall if they're already there? They serve a purpose. And what the hell are you supposed to say to a guy standing next to you who's eyeballing your....um...you know? Saying something would make the situation even more awkward. You also really don't wanna hit the guy, because that may throw him off-balance mid-stream and make a bad situation a thousand times worse if you get my drift.

In a city known for the "Pittsburgh Potty", where you can sit on the porcelain throne completely unhindered by those pesky things called walls and doors, is a lack of urinal partitions really surprising?

Um, in that case, I go into a bathroom stall, therefore my privacy is ensured. Besides, I think it's worse when a stall doesn't even have a door.

Lest we not forget "troughs" like those in the Mellon *ahem* Civic Arena. Kudos to those who have the fortitude (or are drunk enough) to use those in a packed restroom. I don't even bother...

Can't say I've noticed that. Some places have partitions, some don't. I've never traced this to anything to do with Pittsburgh.

In recent renovations, more likely it was either done poorly and fell down on its own or just stupid people breaking stuff. I hardly think it would be a conspiracy to not have them.

Troughs are the norm in those big event places apparently. Good for high capacity and no problems with not flushing. Not appealing but hey, when you gotta go.... (I had to once at Heinz Field.)

I'm not a big fan of troughs.

Then you've never left Pittsburgh, spare for a few fishing trips to Erie or a field trip to Washington DC when you were in elementary school. This is a total Pittsburgh thing...I've NEVER seen it anywhere else.

Stalls with no doors . . . I only really saw this in school, bars, or workplaces full of "the workin' man" (which is a bizarre source of Pittsburgh pride in itself, the ability to ignore all manners and modesty). Mall or dept. store restrooms and other public restrooms always seem to have stall doors. Small restaurants sometimes have odd locations (urinal perpendicular to stall door) but I think that's just because they bought a place with terrible plumbing.

It can't just be a Pittsburgh thing because there was a fight about this in a different forum a few weeks ago with men defending open urinals.

I've always wondered about the weird social atmosphere in the men's rooms. Never could understand why they need group urination at troughs like farm animals.

Then you haven't been enough "anywhere else" places.

Geez. Maybe I just don't p*ss enough.

Dude, at least know when you're talking to a native or not before you hurl ridiculous crap like that.
