to this country.

YouTube - "Is there enough spending to be cut?" Bernanke: "Of course"

Secondly, this guy must have forgotten the golden rule of asking questions;

Don't ask a question that you don't know the answer to.

Democrats are the poster boy for uncontrolled spending.

Liked his pissy retort at the end. Must be nice to be a blowhard that knows not one whit about fiscal responsibility.

Yeah, the democrats have only increased the debt by 50+% in three years, have tripled the deficit this year and WILL create a deficit of $19 TRILLION in ten years, oh and generate a debt of $20 TRILLION by 2015.

They're doing a great job, aren't they?

In an almost $4 TRILLION budget, the democrats and obama can't find anything to cut.

Just like they did under clinton? In recent history the only ones causing fiscal downturns are the right.

Huh? Just like they did under Clinton?

I mean, surely even the most partisan of leftists must admit that the numbers obama and the democrats will be responsible for is beyond all reason and sanity.

This 37 second little video really encapsulates in the simplest fashion all that is wrong with liberal fiscal policies.

I think he knows the answer. He's trying to put Bernanke into a corner and get him to articulate evidence that would support his assertion that cutting that deeply would require a level of reductions that are infeasible or dangerous. It's a common tactic that you'll see in a lot of these sorts of inquiries - politicians will oftentimes wing seemingly innocent or even naive questions at the guy in the chair to try to get him on the hook with a follow-on. You'll see a lot of it in courtrooms too.

I agree it doesn't matter who is in office right now, the country is on such a plunge from the bush admin it will likely take at least two terms to get it straightened out. Obama has admitted this himself. You can't take 8 years of disastrous politics and magically make it better in a year and a half.

Exactly. It's common sense, but those on the right will never admit this.

Interpretation fail.

He does not know the answer or had assumed that there was no room for large cuts to the budget.

His pissy remark at the end - must be nice to be an economist was a jab at the fact that congress has to make the decisions of what to cut.
