Smokers are used to coughing up a lot -- but this is getting ridiculous.

The price on a pack of cigarettes has skyrocketed to $14.50 at some New York City stores thanks to a hefty new tax -- leaving even the most nicotine-addicted buttheads considering nixing their fix.

"This is my last cigarette ever!" fumed William MacLeod, 45, of Brooklyn. "At $15 a pack, this is ridiculous. It's a good excuse for me to quit."

The rich elite libs that smoke (like Obama) do not care. They can afford to pay that ridiculous price. Meanwhile the common man gets the shaft.

lol another reason I'll never live in NYC.

Come on down to Maryland or Virginia or DC, New Yorkers. Lord knows I think the area has its flaws but at least you won't have to take out a mortgage for your cigarettes.

Smokers are an easy target for the money hungry politicians. I think it's ridiculous to have a tax worth several times the actual cost of the item.

It'd be an understandable tax if it all went to healthcare or smoking cessation programs. But in NY, it goes to the general fund. And the federal tax goes to SCHIP, which doesn't really help smokers who wanna quit.

And where will NYC come up with the revenue when people stop buying cigarettes?

Now that the libs know they can get away with insanely high taxes, they will possibly tax something YOU use.

I'll possibly worry about that when it possibly happens.
