Hawaii's governor on Tuesday vetoed legislation that would have permitted same-sex civil unions, ending months of speculation on how she would weigh in on the contentious, emotional debate.

Republican Gov. Linda Lingle's action came on the final day she had to either sign or veto the bill, which the Hawaii Legislature approved in late April.

Unreal. And then we have certain conservatives and Republicans on this forum who repeatedly ask, "Why don't the gays just push for civil unions instead of trying to shove marriage down our throats?"

Good. Marriage is a scared tradition, and it's a shame the government had to step in as of late to make decisions when it should have been left to church.

It needs to come before the citizens of Hawaii, NOT the leftist legislature.

Is it wrong? Absolutely... but you do know that a majority of politicians are idiots... look at all the laws we made... having one additional idiot in government is not so hard to imagine..

Its not just a piece of paper... how would you like it if you were told that you can no longer make any decision concerning your spouse... it wouldn't be a relationship anymore... and that's what a relationship like marriage means... denying someone that privilege is hypocrisy.... I like it but you can't have it cause I deny you it, is not something that anyone should be able to wield...
