I absolutely hate that people actually judge others by the color of their skin.
I can't even fathom having to live with those feelings.......imagine how much a person who is racist loses when they limit themselves to those who are only just like themselves......let alone if one is darker or lighter than the other.....sheesh

They're both human...

I'm not concerned about a person's skin color or ethnic background, I'm more likely to discriminate based on social class.

The upper classes are out.

Portland is not very diverse. It is a lovely city. I dug it. I have many good things to say about Portland. But it is not diverse. As a minority who has lived in many many many places where I am a minority (in many ways) this isn't such a big deal. Something about segments of the "white" community in Portland began to strike me as fairly odd though- a good level of education but a disastrously high level of ignorance and xenophobia.

That said, met many lovely people there. Eventually had to chalk up the ignorants as, well, ignorants. Portland is lovely, but kind of sheltered actually.

Portland I agree is a beautiful city. But as you said very xenophobic, which is ironic because they pride themselves as being very liberal.

I found people to be polite but not overly friendly. Of course I came from CA....LOL.

I had more than one person tell me change your license plates ASAP.

But yes I actually had someone tell me (your typical white Portland liberal) that they where way more diverse and accepting up here compared to LA.

This was of course from a native who never lived anywhere other than Portland.

The poll needs a gender break down. I like girls of all colors and ages; males-not so much.

Light-skinned blacks are a product of race mixing (some would say "race traitor"), a practice I disagree with. Another way to put it is: if I had the choice of making someone either full black or mulatto, I would definitely prefer full black.

Anybody who claims that skin color is the only difference between blacks and whites is in denial.

Most whites don't make nearly as big of a distinction between light skinned and darked skinned folks as blacks do. Whites either are racist -- and hate all blacks, one drop of blood rule applies -- or they're not, in which case coal black and milky caramel are pretty much the same in their eyes.
