Did Russia just make a major mistake. Like playing a game of Chess, they made a very bad move.
By giving Iran this nuclear fuel, I do not think they know what they just did.
If Russia knew that nuclear missiles in several countries have just been freed up for other
targets, they would not have done it.
Prior to Iran having nuclear capabilities, I bet several countries had their targets on oil
countries in the middle east to prevent it falling into enemy hands.
Now they do not have to worry about that. The Muslim countries with nuclear capability will target
Israel, and Israel's will target all oil producing countries in the middle east.
So with them taking care of each other, it frees up China's missiles and other countries to attack
someone else.
So thinking about strategic moves, is Russia now aware of their big mistake?
Does anyone else have a strategic opinion on this, did I miss something?

I think Russia is betting some of its chips on the muslim world. It has problems with Muslims within its borders and providing energy aid to an Islamic nation, it believes, will help ease tensions.

Russia has enough nuclear weaponry to counter any other nuclear-armed nation. Proof: they did it for the entire cold war against America. And no other nation will make a nuclear move against Russian interests because they won't escape similar retaliation.

Good move? Yes. Effective move? Probably not, but can't tell yet.

Sorry, I disagree. One of our best Presidents ever shut them down. President John F. Kennedy.
Back when Cuba was trying to go nuclear.
But I do value your opinion, Thank You.

It is in Russia's interest to influence/control the Caucasus.

See map --> http://fs.huntingdon.edu/jlewis/syl/...iaCaucasus.gif

The Russian president is currently in Armenia [which borders Iran.]
While he has been there he has secured Russia's military base in Armenia
and guaranteed Armenia's security [from two other unfriendly border
nations, not Iran.]

Russia is also helping to build an oil pipeline from Iran to Armenia.

well not like can really tell russia what they can and cannot do and who they can trade with
pretty much going to war with china or russia is bad for all sides. my guess russia did the trade it for Irans oil reserves and nothing more.

the truth is if the middle east did not have massive oil reserves we would not give a hoot about them and they would be broke and poor.

The russian/Iranian partnership was brokered by the Bush administration midway through his administration. It was designed to insure that Iran would return the spent fuel to Russia rather than enrich it into plutonium. This is just the completion of that deal.
The right wing would like to portray this as some special deal that Obama made with Iran but it's really been in the works on a world wide inititive, first proposed by Bush and Conde Rice since 2004.

Read that earlier. Right wing spin to diminish TJ's interest in Islam. It was not just to learn how to defeat them. How do you account for the fact that the first official observance of Ramadan at the white house was in 1809 held by Thomas Jefferson?

A good relationship between Russia and Persia(Iran) has been a Russian objective since the Tsars began to move into Central Asia after the Napoleonic War. Russia has the commanding position in Eurasia and is a source of energy and commodities so this should be a workable basis for a global power. Russia wants to make sure all the oil or gas from central Asia and the Caspain Sea supplies pass through its pipelines to places like Europe , China, India or Japan/ Korea. Russia does not want to see a CINOPEC pipeline through the heart of central Asia or a competing pipeline that the Turks, Americans and Georgians are building to tap the Caspian area. . It would like Iran's vast reserves of gas go through the network controlled by Gazprom. The price for this will be nuclear technology and military technology like Russias S-300 and S-500 SAM missiles and their arrays of advanced radars and command and control computers which may be effective against stealth aircraft and ballistic missiles. Just what Iran needs to send an Israeli attack down in flames. Russia will be expected to watch Iran's back in the UN. If Russia does these things Iran will sign on the dotted line with Gazprom and Rosneft, put in a good word for the Russians in the Shia dominated nations in central Asia and sit on the Azerbajanis for Russians thus helping them out in the Causcuses. Russia might even get to keep few ships in the Persian Gulf and base them out of Hormuz, Bandar Abbas or Bandar Khomeini. This would be a coup that neither the Tsars or the Soviets achieved.
