The American middle class is on the verge of disappearing, while the United States, itself, is in danger of becoming a third world country, a leading German newspaper says.

The US is just ahead of its time, the same tendencies can already be observed in Europe, especially in Germany, France, and of course Britain. And things will continue in that direction if we don't rethink our way of living and doing business. At least in Germany people are more progressive. I read just a couple of days ago, I guess it was also in Spiegel, that 88% of Germans say capitalism is no system for the future. In German the American type of capitalism is called Raubtierkapitalismus, i.e. predator capitalism, and I guess it's obvious why.

Wealth pool at the top, just like what happened with the depression. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Well, let me just ask your personal opinion. Forget what foreign newspapers say.

I see you live in Tennessee. I assume that you leave your house. Maybe go on vacations, etc.

1) do you really, in your heart, think the Middle Class is truly disappearing?

2) do you really think that the USA is 'in danger' of becoming a third world country?

I think 'no' on both questions. This weekend observe how many people will attend football or baseball games, or go out to the mall, or even travel to your beautiful state of Tennessee to visit Memphis, etc.

Why read foreign newspapers to get a feel for your own country? True, sometimes one may read a thoughtful editorial in a foreign newspaper that makes you pause about how other countries see us, but sometimes you simply have to trust your own gut feeling and experience.

LMFAO, did you say Memphis, really?

You should go down to Memphis, and visit some of the, um, more "urban" areas. See if you think thats middle class or a third world country.

No doubt. Most of our cities obviously have poor areas. However, that does not make them 'third world'. I imagine that utilities (water, gas, electricity, telephone service) are still offered in said parts of Memphis.

What's that got to do with the topic? (Regardless of whatever you want to say by that.)

Not all parts, you should really visit. When you have a strong likely hood of being shot, stabbed, robbed, or any of the above and more, its third world enough for me.
