There is as much chance of these upcoming peace talks working as I do making the next Olympic basketball team. Hell, I may actually have the better odds. You can teach animals new tricks.

The odds were stacked against Carter as well. but somehow it happened. 2000 years of hostilities won't go away in a few years but it takes continual steps towards the goal to reach it.

Why would anyone fault the president for striving for peace?

I'm all for attempting to bring about a lasting settlement, although I also have my doubts about the chance of success.

Yet, way back when, I never thought there would be a peace agreement between Israel and Egypt, yet it happened: and it has stuck (even after the assassination of Sadat).

Well when you bribe both sides to the tune of over a billion dollars a year I guess it works...

I totally agree with you. To not strive for peace---even if it's for the far future with all its ups and down along the way---is far better than to accept war and hostility will last another 2000 years.

What about India/Pakistan?

Greece/Turkey?

Turkey/The Kurds?

I sleep easy knowing that Middle East peace will be a function of Biblical prophecy. The Bible says it will happen. And when the temple in Jerusalem is built, i'd be sure to go to bed at night knowing where you'll spend eternity. Because the Return will come as a thief in the night. As quick as a lightning strike.

Middle East peace may be facilitated by politics, but prophecy in action is what you'll really be seeing.

What on God's green Earth are you two talking about? The Arab-Israeli conflict began when Zionism started in the late 1800s. Muhammad, the founder of Islam, lived around the year 600. The Crusades happened around 1200 A.D. So, what is this baloney about 2000 years of hostilities?

People fault the president when he announces a "breakthrough" because it's PR that doesn't obscure his record of staunchly supporting Israel as they abuse the Palestinians terribly and install an apartheid system.

With all due respect, you have no idea what's going on over there.

Here's a Web site that has great information about the huge disparity between Israeli and Palestinian casualties, suffering, wrongdoing and U.S. support:

If Americans Knew - what every American needs to know about Israel/Palestine

Israeli soldiers break the silence:

Breaking The Silence - Israeli soldiers talk about the occupied territories

Here's a video in which some Israelis who were arrested in the U.S. shortly after 9-11 discuss their experiences:

YouTube - Israel and September 11 9/11

The telling quote: "Our purpose was to document the event."
