So now the Republicans have regained the trust of the public since the Democrats have underperformed. Back and forth we go, slipping away as a country. These two parties are destroying this country and all I see here and in public is finger pointing among two sides.

The government, rife with Democrats and Republicans and their power players, lobbyists, and industry power players, have failed to effectively govern this country for decades. All we have seen is blatant abuse of civil liberties and privacy, tremendous fraud, waste, and abuse, and rampant corruption.

Is this not common knowledge? Has this country become so dumbed-down and passive; there's this problem with your own country being destroyed from within, yet you support a lesser of two evils to see us through dark times?

What other choice is there right now?

Contrary to populist belief, all evils are not created equal.

Not created equal, but seemingly accepted. And look at the shape the country is in as a result. Perhaps it's too easy to blame the parties when the true suspect is the voter. What I don't get is the ease in which the Blue and Red establishment has continued to "govern." That's where the attention span statement comes into play.

I usually don't vote based on party but this year I am looking to put balance back in the branches. So I'll be looking at replacing extreme liberals with Republicans.
I would rather vote for a more moderate candidate but we are in so much trouble from the extreme left liberal push.

Thats the problem. Our election system is absolutely terrible. It only allows for a two-party system. And there is really very little that can be done, because the election system has already been concreted into the constitution.

The tea-partiers must run as Republicans. Just like Ron Paul has to run as a Republican. Ron Paul is not a Republican.

Theres two things that need to happen.

1) The 14th amendment needs to be nullified. It was never legally passed(it was forced militarily on the south at the end of the Civil War, as the radical Republicans were ignoring article V of the constitution, by refusing to seat a senator from New Jersey, as well as denying the southern states suffrage in the senate. Since they left the union and must be readmitted. Which seems silly since they claimed throughout the war that the southern states could not legally leave the union). This would strip most of the power out of the hands of Washington DC and return it to the states.

With the power of the federal assembly being stripped away, lobbying groups will no longer need to have permanent offices in Washington DC. There will be less emphasis placed on the national elections, so it will not require as much money to be raised to win those elections. This would mostly destroy the current Republican and Democrat parties, who would have very little reason to create coalitions across states for ideological purposes(Democrats in New York are nothing like Democrats in Arkansas). Since the role of the federal government will again be limited.

2) All states need to adopt an "instant-runoff" voting system(at least for all state and federal Representatives and Senators, as well as the governor and the president).

Instant-runoff voting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This would allow people to vote for a "3rd-party" without "wasting their vote". Which would allow for far more political parties, and more importantly, more political ideologies to be represented in politics. This will further strip away most of the remaining power from the current two-party system.

It's amazing that a country that prides itself on competition is completing lacking in that department when it comes to politics; and the walls that have been put in place to prevent it have been accepted by the public so willingly.

I don't know any Republicans that have gained the public trust. It isn't some wishy washy kind of thing. And the Koch brothers are doing what they can to spin for libertarian causes. This translates into don't disrupt the status quo. And currently the republicans are getting exactly what they deserve.

Yeah but please be equally (if not more) critical of big business/capitalism. In most industries small businesses have long since been squashed by the huge companies who undersell on price, pay most employees peanuts, and do not care about the local community.

And people accept it because they can buy stuff a little cheaper.

At least the government is trying (those with a D after their name).

We need a third party. I would prefer the 8 or 9 that France has though
