It take a real idiot to pull that one off,..

Ahhh...The left and their DELUSIONAL surplus!

The Myth of the Clinton Surplus

Quote:
While not defending the increase of the federal debt under President Bush, it's curious to see Clinton's record promoted as having generated a surplus. It never happened. There was never a surplus and the facts support that position. In fact, far from a $360 billion reduction in the national debt in FY1998-FY2000, there was an increase of $281 billion.

Bush didn't inherit the economy he left to Obama. Bush's "dealing" with 9/11 was a complete failure.

We didn't hit the bottom of Bush's economy until June 2009. It takes about 19 months for jobs to pick back up after a recession has occurred. We've actually been gaining private sector jobs for the last six months, the losses have come from the public sector.

So Obama the "marxist" is responsible for adding private sector jobs and reducing public sector jobs.

You're the one with the false conclusion. There was NO RECESSION under the Clinton Administration. The recession of 2001 started in March The National Bureau of Economic Research they clearly and definitively show the recession started under Bush from a MICRO and MACRO (as well as technical) economic definition.

Last Four Recessions and their Durations
12/07 - 6/09 18 months 3/01 - 11/01 8 months 7/90 - 3/91 8 months 7/81 - 11/82 16 months
Yes, there was the attacks on 9-11, yet the resulting further downturn WAS NOT because of 9-11, it was due to an internal economic crisis built on the premise of continued wealth and leverage. The tax revenues rose, simply on the back of the American public AND Corporate America BORROWING more and more money, leveraging themselves beyond stratospheric proportions, and instead of using sound economic policy, raising rates to let the air out of the balloon. The White House, re: George Bush somehow convinced Greenspan to cut rates, inject cash into the system thereby heating even further the economy and the feeding the drug habit of leverage to Corporate goons. And when the balloon popped, it popped massively, and not in just one sector. The whole thing exploded, and left us in the massive and catastrophic hole we are digging ourselves out of now.

Oh, and the deficit was $160 billion in '06, BECAUSE...BILLIONS of debt and future payments were deferred to 2010, SIMPLY FOR THE FACT THAT THE MONEY WOULD BE KEPT OFF THE BOOKS. The borrowing from 2001-02/2002-03 is what we're paying for now, and the reason our debt levels are climbing so rapidly. That's the problem with 10 year budgets. If there is ONE irresponsible and morally bankrupt American CEO/President the next generation pays for their sins and transgressions. Not the one who created it, and certainly the people who endorsed them and helped provide the impetus and should shoulder the blame as well for almost bankrupting America.

So, when you say that "we" collected the money... you need to remember who pays taxes in the first place

Ah, another failed attempt at spin the conclusion. Look here Francis...the Federal Government...IS...WE THE PEOPLE. WE are the government, and it is US who both pay AND collect the taxes...FOR THE PUBLIC DEFENSE, to ensure domestic tranquility, to ensure justice, etc., etc.

So yes, WE collected the gov't., because unless you live somewhere in a totalitarian dictatorship, the AMERICAN PEOPLE are the government. So WE collected the or in this case DIDN'T collect what would have helped to lessen the bite of Bush's lax policies and folly.
