Shares of the nation's chicken producers could tumble on Monday after China said it will slap a hefty tariff on U.S. chicken imports to combat what it says are unfairly low prices.

The Chinese government said Sunday that its investigation found that U.S. chicken products are being sold at low prices which undermine the local market. New import duties ranging from 50.3 percent to as much as 105.4 percent will take effect Monday and last for five years.

since when has china ever been concerned with the US local markets being undermined by cheap chinese products?

this hurts the chinese people, by forcing them to buy higher-priced chicken. this hurts the american economy, too, so it really is a lose-lose situation.

of course they are right, we are "dumping", since we federally subsidize our grain production, which is what you use to feed chickens with. and they are "dumping" other products in US markets, too, which they really can't avoid with a centralized quasi-market quasi-command economy like they have.

it is like how we call them a "currency manipulator", rabble rabble rabble.. meanwhile we're the world's foremost currency manipulators, engaging in quantitative easing on a scale never before seen by mankind.

The Chinese are smarter than our Politicians!!! Sucker!

"Today we take a major step toward China's entry into the World Trade Organization and a major step toward answering some of the central challenges of this new century," Clinton said in a bipartisan White House ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
"Trade with China will not only extend our nation's unprecedented economic growth, it offers us a chance to help shape the future of the world's most prosperous nation and to reaffirm our own global leadership for peace and prosperity."
The measure is considered the most important U.S. trade legislation since passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1993. But it faced a long campaign of opposition from labor, human rights and conservative groups who wanted to retain the annual review of trade relations with China.
The Senate passed the China trade bill in September after supporters won a bruising battle in the House of Representatives in May. Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle joined Clinton on the South Lawn of the White House to watch him sign the measure, dubbed the U.S.-China Relations Act of 2000.

This is just another in a long list of "Free Trade" nonsense. "Free Trade" benefits the financiers at a substantial cost to everyone else. “Fair Trade” with countervailing tariffs is a good idea but “Free Trade” is not.

The Chinese are not about to let low cost chicken do to their farmers what low cost corn did to the Mexican farmers. The Chinese can’t just walk across the border to find work like the Mexicans. The Chinese are not stupid.

Right now in the long term they have the advantage. They are the country with the faster rate of economic growth, larger current account balance, and larger currency reserves. Plus we NEED the Chinese to keep buying our Treasury Bills. Basically they hold the leverage economically.

About the only thing the United States can do is ***** and moan. We know it and they know it.

Must really suck, when we can sell chickens cheaper then someone using slave labor camps.

We need to slap a tariff on something they export now, maybe hand tools.

China looks out for its own best interest, just like us and every other country.

Our ag practices are so incredibly efficient that no other nation can or perhaps wants to compete. But some have to in order to get the free trade agreements. But not china, china has tons of leverage.

So this makes sense for them. Mexico would do the same thing if they could.

I still buy US made hand tools. I new KOBALT tools from Lowe's. Unfortunately there is a LOT of Chinese Junk out there.

I think the Chinese are taking the proper measures to counteract US Government subsidized chicken. We should return the favor but extend the tariffs to cover labor and environmental cost advantages used by the Chinese to unfairly undercut prices in our markets.
