A Toronto judge has struck down Canada's prostitution laws, in effect decriminalizing activities associated with the sex trade, the Toronto Star reports.

Justice Susan Himel of Ontario's Superior Court of Justice ruled that the laws "individually and together, force prostitutes to choose between their liberty interest and their right to security of the person as protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms."
Judge declares Canada's prostitution laws unconstitutional -

And the U.S. plods along, holding on to Puritanical laws that restrict consenting adults from doing what they want with their bodies. Hopefully our courts will follow Canada's lead on this issue.

Do you think prostitution should be legal? Why or why not?

Why don't you move to Canada then? Or Nevada, where prostitution is legal in Las Vegas (and I believe Reno also) since you hate our "puritanical laws" so much

Actually it is NOT legal INSIDE of vegas, its only legal OUTSIDE of vegas... I saw an episode of COPS that talked about it...

as to AUM - I have to say that the judges ruling is sound and completely logically, by depriving them the legality of private liberty, it is making them live in a more risky world... I never thought of it in that context... by making it illegal, it endangers their right to security and freedom (liberty)... I have to rethink my stance on illegal drugs and other issues.... I think the judge made a very intelligent decision with a good argument... we have the same protections over here... life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...

You think I should shut up and leave the country if I don't like a law? Sorry, but that's not going to happen.

I have a right to speak my mind and express my opinion. I believe in speaking up when I disagree with a law. It's how our system works. This country isn't a dictatorship or a theocracy. Freedom isn't just for religious conservatives.

Sorry, but that's a ridiculous thing to say. Let me see: Allowing adults to provide sexual pleasure to other adults for a living - versus - murdering another human being. Hmm. Such a difficult comparison.

Yes, actually I do. Liberalism is like Islam, you go into other people's countries and infect it with your ideology (by the way Islam is also a political system, called Sharia) and turn it inside and out. We have the system we do today, because this country is too big to accommodate one set of interests, which you are keen on doing. I'm happy with the status quo, it's the best we can achieve towards balance, I'm very big on states' rights. By the way, you and your leftist friends only make up less than 10% of the population, so do us a favor and stop trying to tell the rest of the Americans that lives outside of California and New York to accept your states' hedonistic lifestyles. Thank you very much.

It's a state rather than federal issue. Taken a step further as it is here in NV it's actually up to individual cities and counties to decide whether or not they wish to allow it.

If you feel so strongly it should be legal start a grassroots movement and lobby for it.

Ironically enough the government of your liberal state is the stumbling block to legal prostitution there. A Libertarian state like NV (which most of your fellow liberals consider a backward flyover state) allows more personal freedom.

...and liberals and leftists who demand the Nation capitulate to the basest in society, and denigrate any who dare criticize, or refuse to jump in their cesspool.

Nope. I'm just voicing my opinion, just like others do every minute of the day on this forum. It appears that a number of conservatives are anti-free-speech and want me to shut up. Sorry, but that's not going to happen.
