Community service would be good, and getting this as a legal imbroglio on their records would be excellent. Follow them all their lives in hiring decisions. "OMG, you're that guy!"
But even if they get off with no outward punishment they still will have this on their consciences forever. That's good, too.

Ravi is 18, likely has no money. You can't sue the parents, as he's an adult. Who are the deep pockets here? The school.
But what will this require, that schools force students to seek out mental counselling? Will the school be blamed fo rhis decision, and his decision to not seek out counselling?

Gen Yers are so self absorbed that I would think it's would be reasonable to think he's a sociopath, Do you think sociopaths feel guilt?
No. They're sociopaths.
Maybe he wont feel guilty, but a sociopath would be mad that thanks to activist judges and the PC atmosphere of the day a harmless boyhood prank wound up blocking him from good jobs the rest of his life.
So? It doesn't say he was depressed or anything like that. Maybe his family didn't know he was gay and he was ashamed to talk about it with anyone.
