Maybe the government should look to reduce the deficit by reducing their benefits. What corporation has these types of "perks" for us average people?

Yea, I read that this morning. I'm getting so tired of the hypocrisy, “the better for me better than you” attitude!

Yes, even back during the Nixon administration people were upset about the perks members of Congress got. I recall when their pay was around $50,000.00 a year: it seemed like a fortune.

30-plus years later, the perks keep on going and even growing. Through the Ford administration, the Carter administration, the Reagan administration, the Bush administration, the Clinton administration, the Bush administration, and now, of course.

Recall that it used to be that Congress had to vote themselves a pay raise, which incurred the wrath of the voting public each year. Then they changed the rules where the pay raise is automatic unless they decide to vote against it.

The article neglected to mention that members of Congress also have access to young interns, male and female. When my little sister (now in 40s) visited DC back when she was 17 years old, she met a House member who immediately asked her to come back and work as an intern or page. Of course, my father (no fool) told her NO!

It's nice to see, even FOS "news", coming to support things like the new Health Care Law. Imagine, American people soon being able to get the same coverage as Congress people.

"What corporation has these types of "perks" for us average people?"

Now that's the real $64,000 question!
The "perks" we pay for corporate CEO's, we are screwed two ways, by working hard for cheap pay, AND then by our taxpayer bailouts.

Once again, we see the backasswards logic of government somehow "setting the bar" on how pay and benefits should be allocated. The free market doesn't care how much or how little of these bennies are paid out, but if we're not careful we'll replicate the Soviet styled health care system. cr@p health care for the people, and excellent benefits for friends and family of the government bureaucrats.

how do we pay the corporate CEO's? are you inferring to the bailouts? Ok, that is something I disagree with too. Otherwise, your post misses the mark.

Exactly, the free market does not care about WE THE PEOPLE. And THAT is why Our Founding Fathers created the Constitution, for the PUBLIC GOOD. Single Payer eliminates the MIDDLEMEN, the corporate wealth insurance companies, and pays the PRIVATE SECTOR medical providers of OUR CHOICE (the real American way!)

If you think you're getting the same health care like the politicians get, you're living in a delusional world
