Where is the outcry over this? Is Ellen Degeneres going to do a show denouncing the hatred of atheists like Dawkins? Somehow I doubt it.

How in the name of all that's holy can this suicide be laid at Dawkins' feet? Obviously, we'll never know what actually miotivated this young man to take his own life, and distraught parents will always look for a reason. (Equally obvious is the fact that WND has a book or two to hawk that'll affirm the persecution complex they're selling, but that's another story.)
If we take the father's story at face value, he raised a son who was so dependent on faith, he completely crumbled when he first encountered doubt. That's no way to arm your children for life. If you can only survive within an enclave that provides constant religious reaffirmation, you're not going to survive in the outside world for long. You're certainly not going to do well at a university, an institution that's supposed to be about exposure to other worldviews. (That is, apparently, the father's conclusion as well.)
An incredibly sad story and if there's bullying, that's inacceptable and should be roundly condemned. But if the young man brought up Intelligent Design in a biology class, for instance - then he'd better be able to defend his ideas, because that, too, is what higher learning is about.
