You see how silly that is? Just because a suicidal kid read a book, doesn't mean the book or the book's author are responsible. You're just jumping all over it because you have a vendetta against atheism, and you are gullible enough to swallow what a sensationalist rag like WND tells you is "truth".
so do you always stick up for gays and athiests? Maybe you can cure my blind brother who has leprosy?

Yes, and anyone else who is being oppressed.

Where is the outcry over this? Is Ellen Degeneres going to do a show denouncing the hatred of atheists like Dawkins? Somehow I doubt it.
How in the name of all that's holy can this suicide be laid at Dawkins' feet? Obviously, we'll never know what actually miotivated this young man to take his own life, and distraught parents will always look for a reason. (Equally obvious is the fact that WND has a book or two to hawk that'll affirm the persecution complex they're selling, but that's another story.)

If we take the father's story at face value, he raised a son who was so dependent on faith, he completely crumbled when he first encountered doubt. That's no way to arm your children for life. If you can only survive within an enclave that provides constant religious reaffirmation, you're not going to survive in the outside world for long. You're certainly not going to do well at a university, an institution that's supposed to be about exposure to other worldviews. (That is, apparently, the father's conclusion as well.)

An incredibly sad story and if there's bullying, that's inacceptable and should be roundly condemned. But if the young man brought up Intelligent Design in a biology class, for instance - then he'd better be able to defend his ideas, because that, too, is what higher learning is about.

First, is this the same guy who played on HOgan's Heroes and then hosted Family Feud?

Second, don't expect the media to even notice because this is not a cause they champion. It doesn't fit the agenda.

Lastly, if his faith was shaken so badly by one atheist's writing then it wasn't a very strong faith. He should have spoken to someone about it and gotten help if he felt his whole belief systme was falling apart. It is still very sad that he took this way out. It doesn't matter if it s a Christian feeling lost and alone or a homosexual. It is always sad when someone takes their own life.
