Cheerleader, 11, ousted for refusing to

An 11-year-old girl who was thrown off a Nebraska elementary school’s junior cheerleading squad because she refused to “shake her booty” says that while the gyrations may be a crowd-pleaser, she doesn’t think young girls should be moving their bodies like that.

Good for her!

She has the right not to shake her booty. They have the right to have cheerleaders on the squad that will follow the dance routine. Sounds fair to me.

They are cheerleaders NOT dancers.

I watched it, I do feel the routine was a little much for the little girles but i think thats just up to the parents if they agree with it or not, nobody is forced to join.

I never understood why middle and high schools thought it was appropirate to use dance and cheering routines that have the girls shaking and grinding like pro-football cheerleaders. It really is inappropriate for the age and the audience. However, many see no problem with the sexification of children and pre-teens. Sad reflection of society, IMO.

I agree with you... they had to know what the routines were like before joining. If they didn't, well they know now

I say good for her too!! This hyper-sexualizing of children/ adolescents is an adult sickness put upon them. Enough is enough.

Why is it appropriate for pro football cheerleaders to be pole dancers in nationalized events?

Good for the little girl and her parents--I don't think an 11 year old needs to go there either. I have a sixth grader (a son) and I can't in my wildest dreams see how that would be appropriate for a routine at that age group, and I'm far from being a prude. I'm not sure what the cheer squad advisors were thinking, or maybe that's the point--they weren't.
