The name Jose is hardly foreign to the history of Texas. There have been plenty of Joses in Texas throughout its history.
I don't think laws like those of Argentina which mandate that all babies have names in the language of the country would be constitutional in the US. Texas doesn't have an official language anyways.
BTW: looked at that link, it's interesting that only one of the top 10 boys' names in California is a Spanish-language name (Angel) and that Jose's only #15 in California. Isabella's also the #1 girls' name in California but that isn't exclusively a "Hispanic" name (it would be Isabel in Spanish, anyways) The only "Hispanic" name on the California baby girls' name list is Mia (and of course not all Mias are Latinas). On the Texas girls' names' list, Mia is on there, but that's the only "Hispanic" girl's name there too. Angel is the only other "Hispanic" boys' name on the list besides Jose.
Jose and Angel are on the top 10 list in AZ, also. As are Isabella and Mia. Interestingly there are no "Hispanic" names on the Florida Top 10 boys' names list.
Does this mean that if I move to Texas I (as a White male) can take advantage of affirmative action and all the other special privileges granted to minorities since I would be a minority there?
To be fair though, Texas has always had an extremely large Mexican population even in the 1800s. Lot of Mexicans came over and settled in Texas after the Mexican Revolution and most Hispanics in Texas have been living there for at least 3 generations
I guess it shouldn't. Everything around is in two languages.
We celebrate Mexican holidays..not officially though but they are celebrated.
Quinceanera is a big deal here.
This is extremely controversial to those who think Taco Bell is authentic mexican quisine.
Or a drive-thru BBQ place
