Oh, this sounds interesting. CIA involvement. Do explain further.

They also have very very very low populations and geographic size. Sweeden has about 9 mil people. Norway has 4 mil people. Denmark, 5.5 mil people.

To put that in perspective, Los Angeles county has upwards of 10 million people.

These countries are also not very diverse.

Put small, like minded population together? I'm sure some form of socialism would work fine.

In a country like ours? With the population, land mass and diversity we have? Nope.
Won't disagree, but will say capitalism isn't working here either. Perhaps we need a hybrid of sorts. It would help to start out with national health care, downsize our military and it's nation building reach, close bases that are no longer needed, etc.

Whether its National Socialism like the Nazis or Class-based socialism like the communists, a socialist economy never works and always leads to a totalitarian government because the underlying priniciple of socialism is that the government knows how to spend your money better than you do.
You think those in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, etc are living under a totalitarian government?

Nah, not young, but evolved enough to know capitalism isn't the answer in the long run.

And I'm questioning your ability to elaborate on your statement in a meaningful way without just posting a link.

And one more thing, if you are not aware of the CIA's involvement (and not in a good way) in third world countries may I suggest an excellent book that is a fascinating read called "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man." It was written by someone in the CIA and is fascinating.

From the OP it is obvious that schools no longer teach the distinction between the US being a Republic, and what that means in how our Constitution was constructed, and a Social Democracy (Statism).

Plainly stated, our Constituion does not allow for the institutions of Socialism because the federal government is not enumerated such over-reaching powers. Our Constitution does not allow for most of the major Socialist entitlement programs that are currently in place. The reason our government is financially broken = Socialism.

Of course. I should do your research for you since you're one of those people that would fall prey to the "communist dream". Good luck...

I'm not so worried about what terminology we use, as long as there's some reasonable likelihood that what is being proposed might actually work.

So far, the proposals of both extremes (economic darwinism on the right, endless unfunded entitlements on the left) have failed, miserably.

Forget about debating the S word. We need to find someone to pick up the check.

If our Constitution does not allow for the institutions of socialism, then how come we have major socialist entitlement programs currently in place?

BTW, this is a republic, not a democracy (well, one could argue it's neither at this point) and if there is ONE thing it ain't, it is socialist.

Really? Because you don't own anything if the government has the power to take it whenever it wants and for whatever reason it can come up with. Also, you forewent your rights to private property when you took on a SS number. What does it mean if you have a title or deed to something if the government can confiscate it by any means it sees necessary?
