Using our tax dollars to do that is unconscionable and irresponsible and I, for one, am not happy about it even to the point of refusing to buy GM products so long as they continue to screw their American workers in favor of foreign workers.

For instance, I was in the market for a new pick up truck just this month and bought a Nissan, rather than another Chevy. Know why? Because the Silverado's are built in Guadalajara, Mexico and the Nissan's in Smyrna, TN. And, I let GM know why I didn't buy their product.

Maybe if more of us would adopt the same tactic, this foolishness would end.
It is actually depressing to see so many American vehicles being built in third world nations, while "foreign" cars are almost always built in the USA. Then those same companies abandoning the US have the nerve to ask us to bail them out after screwing us over for the past 40 years.

The biggest argument for the bailout was always "saving the suppliers" yet if you look at the actual numbers the largest customer base for auto suppliers is now the Southeast, where Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Volkswagen, and others have set up shop.

No doubt part of why Ford continues to do well. If I'm in the market for a pickup, it is F150 all the way. They are still built in MI.

What does that mean? They sold off what they could. Nobody wanted/could take on most of it.

Your last sentence -the result was pure capitalism! Sorry but it had to be done. And only Barack Obama had the stones to do it. So sorry but yes we can!

... globalization?

They're all built all over the world with parts made all over the world.

Maybe patriots should be buying GM to help the US auto industry dominate once again. Instead of Nissan

Yes, I agree. In fact, I intended to buy a Ford, but they wouldn't offer 0% interest. Nissan did.

GM, Ford Accelerate Shift to Mexico Workers Making $26 a Day - Bloomberg

But you knew this... surely?

So I don't understand why "patriots" don't buy GM and Chrysler, but do buy from Japanese owned companies. Then complain that we don't have any money invested in this country. Is it just because you like to be mad and complain, and take care of only yourselves

Also, I do hope the "Obama = Socialist" virus is finally gone from the hard drives that are your brains.

If American car companies made something that worked as advertised and not some piece of crap, then you'd have a point. Right now cars like Nissan and Toyota blow away American cars in reliability and price. Thank you UNIONS!

I'm a patriot and I bought a Nissan because it was built by American workers who need jobs just as badly as all the Mexican and Chinese workers our domestic manufacturers are supporting.

What's un-patriotic about that?

AGOA.info > Resource on the African Growth and Opportunities Act > Ford Ranger truck production could move to SA thanks to AGOA

"On Aug. 25, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and St. Paul, Minn., Mayor Chris Coleman unsuccessfully lobbied Ford to keep its Twin Cities assembly plant open where the Ranger is assembled for the U.S. and Canadian markets. After several extensions, Ford Ranger production will end in Minnesota by the end of next year.

A day after Minnesota’s last-ditch efforts, Ford and Mazda announced a $350 million joint venture in Thailand to build the next-gen Ford Ranger — code named T6 — and its Mazda counterpart, the BT-50, for markets around the globe except the U.S. (and Canada) starting in mid-2011."
