There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg , Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes..

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

Ummm.

Where do we get $40 trillion?

The current GDP of the US is only $14.6 trillion.

The US's national debt is currently about $14 trillion.

You'd be almost quadrupling the debt.

That is a great idea but when you take into account that all those people in the 50 year old range buy a house and a car they will have too little left to live out their lives on considering that the Fed is getting ready to fire up the printing presses again and print from $500 billion to $1 trillion new money which will cause astounding inflation and those people would have about 20% less money left in their bank accounts.

Great idea but it is based on something that we won't have much longer and we can't stop it from happening even if the Republicans win heavy control of the House and a bare control of the Senate. Inflation that is being caused by the progressives of our nation will kill anything like this before it gets off the ground.
