Finally a "Republican" Says what needed to be said.

Time to end the American Empire

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen.-elect Rand Paul says GOP lawmakers must be open to cutting military spending as Congress tries to reduce government spending.
The tea party favorite from Kentucky says compromise with Democrats over where to cut spending must include the military as well as social programs. Paul says all government spending must be "on the table."
Paul tells ABC's "This Week" that he supports a constitutional amendment calling for a balanced budget.

I disagree with his stance on abortion and gay marriage, but I totally agree with him on this matter.

If electing some radicals who support overturning RvW means cutting military spending drastically, I'll accept the short term personal set backs. I doubt they could muster enough votes to strike at the stuff they want anyway.

The meeting point of the extremes on both ends of the political spectrum meets on isolationist foreign policy and weak national security. The idea that America should withdraw from the world.

It is where Paul meets Kucinich.

The United States spends more than the top 27 military powers in the world, combined.

We are allied with 26 of them.

The United States spends 4 times what the ENTIRE REST OF THE WORLD spends on military expenses.

The United States spends 8 times more than our next possible competitor on the world stage, China, on military spending.

Yeah, if we cut our military by 25%, we'd still be spending more than twice what the rest of the world is on military spending, still more than 6 times what China does on their military, and our allies in the top 26 might have to start actually being allies instead of states that we protect for their support in the United Nations.

Yeah, thats real weak on foreign policy

I believe in a robust, strong military.

Which we should be able to get for about 200B.

The amount we spend now is inexcusable.

I'm a Republican and a Vet by the way.

We have over 130 bases all around the world, our military budget dwarfs ALL OTHER NATIONS COMBINED.

How on earth does the reasonable questioning of the US government poking its nose into every place on this planet amount to 'weak national security'???

When we can't even control our own border down south?!!! And take in less money than we spend (trade deficits)

Like Mr. Paul I've always questioned this 'sacred cow' of the US budget politics - the military (and many of those tax paid accounts are not even counted because they are 'top secret' and tucked away in other agencies' budgets)

What sections of the world does Rand Paul suggest we give up to whoever wants to step in?

Since we'll never fight China over Taiwan, we may as well leave that region to the Chinese.
North Korea is evil, but they are about to starve to death. Whether or not they make nukes, we'll never attack them because they could destroy Soule. So we can get out of S. Korea as well.
