ATHENS, Nov 22 (Reuters) - Former U.S. vice-president Al Gore said support for corn-based ethanol in the United States was "not a good policy", weeks before tax credits are up for renewal.
U.S. blending tax breaks for ethanol make it profitable for refiners to use the fuel even when it is more expensive than gasoline. The credits are up for renewal on Dec. 31.
I could have told him that the first time a tank of old ethanol fouled my chain saw and lawn mowers. It will, if it sits there undisturbed for a few months, such as over the winter.
Total U.S. ethanol subsidies reached $7.7 billion last year according to the International Energy Industry, which said biofuels worldwide received more subsidies than any other form of renewable energy.
That's about 72 cents a gallon by my calculations and having seen these figures before I question whether it includes the farm subsidies.

Gore supported so-called second generation technologies which do not compete with food, for example cellulosic technologies which use chemicals or enzymes to extract sugar from fibre for example in wood, waste or grass.
How much you want to bet he has investments in this?

Of course. For Al Gore, the high priest of the church of enviromentalism, its all about fear and money-making. The hypocrite lives in a house that uses 20 times the electricity of the average American. http://www.granthammond.com/2010/hom...e-bushs-ranch/
