What happens if a basketball player makes the sign of the cross after making a free throw, or a baseball player draws a cross in the dirt before an at bat? Do you punish them or the team? With this line of thinking, next you would stop pre-game prayers or bands from playing gospel songs at half-time.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what this player did.

They should take another look at the interpetation of the unsportsmanlike conduct rule.
exactly his rights are being violated. his freedom of religion his freedom of speech. he didnt involve anyone but himself, and now its a crime to pray ??

I wish that before every game, from high school to the pros, god would make it clear which side he wants to win. This would help me win much money in bets. I could quit my job.

Or what about a big "Praise Satan!!!!"....or discreetly tracing a Pentagram on his chest, every time he managed to hurt another player?

So! The Christians are attempting to take over the coliseum!

They will be changed by it.

Nobody likes competitive Christians.

It just kills me every time thinking about how they want nothing to do with religion but seem too overjoyed to comment on religious articles. Simply pathetic and major hypocrites.
I'm a non-believer who happens to look at a variety of threads here - including religion and politics. I didn't 'flock' over here like a 'rat', thank you very much. And I'm not one of the 'mean' atheists, either - who knows, most of them probably ignore me or don't like me because I don't call myself an Atheist and I don't take a hard, snarky line. So "whateva, whateva" to you and your non-believer bashing. Very holy of you to be judging and spewing such vitriol and name calling

In any case, this isn't about religion or celebrations. Did y'all look/listen to the clip? The penalty is because he kept the ball and delayed the game in order to indulge personal expression. He could have been doing cartwheels or having a hissy fit and would have gotten flagged...because he still had the ball and the game couldn't continue. He made it about him instead of about the team and the whole team paid for it.

Sounds about right I can't wait till they just slo mo everything so that no one will break a sweat and the games will take 8 hours to watch, more money for the Not For Long League....

From the OP's linked article:

"It's just something I do every time I get in the end zone,” said Ronnie Hastie, a Tumwater High School running back."

If every player were penalized every time, for end-zone dances, ball spikes as well as this, then fine. However, it would seem an inconsistantcy in refereeing exists if the player in question has always done it; but just now, in the Christmas season, gets penelaized. Coincidence or PC run amok?

He actually came out and said he wasnt blaming GoD
