Mulitple news sources say the cancer has spread to her liver and that Elizabeth Edwards has decided to stop treatments and instead spend her finals days with her family.

I have yet to hear that she's "near death" just that they discovered the cancer in her liver. The doctors have advised her that treatment, at this point, would be useless.

The best thing a man can do for his children is to love their mother. I wish for Elizabeth the love of her children and all peace and happiness through this Christmas season. May God bless her and her family.

I'm a bit of a sociopath, and I disliked this woman quite a bit when Edwards was a viable candidate. But I have real, sincere sympathy for that woman. She gave up a lot, and transformed herself around a person whom she believed in...all for a lie. Not a little lie. A complete, total farce.

Spin it how you must in an effort to feel good; she'll die sad and broken.

How sad she had to go through so much in her last years. I hope she can have some peace now that she is dying.

Sad.

Having just lost my Mother to cancer, this dreaded disease is taking far too many people.

I feel for her kids and hope that is not true.

I was never a supporter of the Edwards either but I also feel a genuine sympathy for her. She was a good wife and deserved better. I can't even comprehend the mind of a man who chases after a skirt while his wife is terminally ill. Geez, couldn't he wait a bit? How humiliating for the wife and for the children, including the baby born out of wedlock with his ho.

Maybe there's a problem with my libido. I just could never see destroying the lives of the people I love so I could have an orgasm. I don't get it.

I hope this poor woman finds peace and love in her final months. I hope that her children will honor her memory.
