Some of you people make me sick. You act like every person who is unemployed is getting some kind of enjoyment out of this horrible situation. I really never thought I would stoop to this level of wishing something bad on people who I don't even know, but being unemployed changes you. Every time I hear someone say we are lazy or milking the system it makes my blood boil. There is nothing that would please me more (other than getting a job) than to see you people lose your jobs. Maybe then you would wake up and smell the coffee.
This whole Unemp. Benefits is just another Dem B.S. ploy to get more votes down the road.....
I mean give me a break already...99 weeks on U.B. and still no job?....Why look....U.B. will be there, thats why.
Sure people get laid off..OK..1,2 or 3 months on U.B....completely understandable....but more then 99 weeks, are you kidding me.
Look what welfare has done to people in this country (and people on welfare seem to vote Dem by far) so Dems just figure....WTH...Give free money and they'll vote Dem.
Is it wrong for someone who faithfully paid for home owners insurance to file a claim when their home gets flooded? Should Katrina victims have taken one for the team rather than filing claims so as not to cause a potential shift in rates for others?
Good point, insurance has the group subsidise the individual...

Most people pay taxes. The workers and the employers pay taxes. A portion of those taxes fund unemployment insurance (funds that otherwise might have been used to increase employee salaries or other benefits). Not filing for your unemployment benefit if/when the time comes would be like not filing a claim on your home owners insurance after your house burns down. To suggest doing so is somehow immoral is ridiculous.
Yes...but such logic doesn't work against the 'not fair' mentality.

Can you explain why someone would accept getting less then min. wage on unemployment instead of work?
It's easy for somebody to be a jerk as long as it's not them or affecting them. America has kind of gone down the toilet in that regard, the disregard for others, lack of compassion and general mean spirited nature is the norm.
Man you hit the nail on the head with that one! Until you've walked a mile in someone's shoes you really don't know! I am all for helping people who want to help themselves. It's ashame that the ones who genuinely need assistance get lumped in with those that try to use the system.
He WAS stating he didn't get any handouts...and people are now...join the dots.
I can't see where he stated he could have gotten any handouts...
Okay, you've lost me now. What do the people now have to do with PGH not taking handouts, aside from that it's proven that if you're diligent and smart enough with money, you don't NEED handouts? Or maybe if you have some morals? For the record, you stated you are UE and are not taking UE bennies...why, since you seem so dead-set on validating entitlements?
It's implied that he could have gotten handouts. If his water is off and he is showering at the gym, he would have at least likely qualified for energy assistance.
Maybe you should give some you free time to charitable work for your organization of choice. It might be a good release for your anger. Stop complaining and give back to your community or government.
Not only that, it's an excellent way to network. Frequently, the very people Obama and the Dems love to demonize (high income earners) are closely involved in the operational and fundraising aspects of those charitable organizations, volunteering their time and services. Getting involved in the charity gets you noticed, which could result in a referral to someone who's hiring, if not an outright job offer - those who are hiring are looking for people with a strong sense of ethics.

This line of discussion started WAY back with the it's 'not fair' line....it doesn't REALLY matter that much in the end.
Point is,just because one person could not or did not get handouts at one time in their life doesn't mean no-one should...

I quit.No unenjoyment for me...Actually I am in the (incredibly slow) process of getting our place in NC liveable...

I have no idea, perhaps he will clarify this for us?
Now....I highly doubt ANYONE posting has not been the beneficiary of some sort of socialist program...either privately funded or from the almighty benevolent gov.
I, too, am glad they extended unemployment although I hope we will not need the extension. At the age of 60, my DH got fired by a company which was downsizing. His job is in a highly specialized field with only a limited number of potential employers. He secured work right away, but it is only as a straight commission employee. Sometimes, it takes a couple of years to woo a client, and actually get paid for a project.
As people who have never done anything wrong, and always paid for other people's benefits, we feel no guilt whatsoever in getting unemplyment until he finally gets paid.
This being said, if there was no such thing as unemployment insurance, my husband, and everyone else, would have gotten some other job as soon as they could. It is hard to say whether or not this would have resulted in a healthier economy or not. My gut feeling is that more new businesses would have been started as the unemployed used their brains and skills to figure out how to survive.
