Jesus, people, insulin is also a prescription medication. One of my son's friends wears an insulin pump. Without it, he'd be dead, but because of the "evil" pharm companies, he'll most likely live a long, healthy life.
I think it's obvious that the argument is not over necessary, life-saving medications that are truly warranted.

I am thinking that you are missing the big picture with this thread.
I get complaints and yelled at if people leave my place of business WITHOUT a prescription. It means that I 'didn't do anything.'
Adjust people's expectations, remove the 'customer service' aspect from medicine, curtail malpractice suits, and you will have better academic medicine practiced nationwide.
Okay, then, let me go on record as a parent who medicates her child for ADHD. After several years of using only behavior and nutrition therapy, we were at our wits' end. Augmenting with a stimulant medication made a huge difference! It's not a magic pill, but it is an essential part of our multi-pronged approach.
Let me also add that the OP did not specify psychotropic and/or stimulant medications.
I think it's obvious that the argument is not over necessary, life-saving medications that are truly warranted.
The OP didn't present any argument, simply a 'frown.' Perhaps it was intended to transmit dismay over the fact that so many kids have chronic illnesses that have to be treated with prescription medications - asthma, diabetes, heart problems..., however, I'm thinking that maybe more than a few people didn't open the link.
Opening paragraph from the WSJ article:
"Gage Martindale, who is 8 years old, has been taking a blood-pressure drug since he was a toddler. "I want to be healthy, and I don't want things in my heart to go wrong," he says."
The OP link is a pro-drug article IMO.
But doesn't it concern folks that over 80% of the world's production of Ritalin is consumed in the US ?
Doesn't it concern folks that these adult medicines are now being prescribed to kids ?
Doesn't it conern folks that kids are now getting the chronic illnesses normally gotten later in life ?
As soon as a kid gets unruly in school "ADHD" is mentioned and off to the doctor.
Too many are too quick to drug up kids so they walk around like zombies.
As soon as your kid "challenges" or "questions" the teacher they will be deemed unruly and forced onto meds. Teachers want zombies so they can spend their days texting with their friends.
