Either headed out to protect their family...or headed out to get one while they can. Glock 19 is a great weapon--can't blame them for their choice in models...have one myself.
The G19 is the most popular selling model available to civiliansof the GLOCK line. I'm not certain why anyone sees this as surprising. People in Tucson who were in denial and thought they may never be in a position to need to proect themselves just had a very rude reality check.
Oh, and the Gen 4's with the adjustable grip are just out with a new steel recoil rod that makes the felt recoil more like a .22 than a 9mm.
The Gen 4 subcompacts will likely be out following SHOT in a few weeks.
My best guess is that this is because Glock has a huge brand recognition.
People who are on the fence about owning a handgun seem to be propelled by current events at any given time. Casual observation suggests that even non gun owners are familiar with certain names, especially Glock, Smith & Wesson, and Beretta, so it makes sense that those who were propelled toward gun shops in the wake of recent events, would gravitate to brands that they knew of, even if they knew little about the brand itself. I would guess that few gun shops would steer potential customers away from a specific brand that a customer specifically requested.

And let's not forget that those who make a profit selling guns love a good tragedy!
Sales increase and I think it's the controversy....some idiots think Obama wants to take their guns away ( Gee, I wonder who would put that idea in their little heads??), and so they obediently run out and buy some guns before ALL GUNS ARE BANNED....what sheep!
