Not that I'm aware of. There's no age norming and since it's well known and expected, guess they are doing the extra work necessary to stay physically fit. Really, this is a totally new topic to me because I had never heard of age norming before.
Neither have I. I know that prior service people going through basic are treated differently, but they still have meet all the requirements as any other soldier. Age norming is a term I have never heard of and I will have to do some checking with active service members to verify whether this is true or not.

As I've said before...if women want to join the Infantry...they will have to match what the men can do....physcialy....and maybe even mentally....
There is no way a 125 lb woman could carry/drag any Soldier that weighs more than 200 lbs and then throw the guys ruck sack into that weight and you have close to or over 300 lbs.....
Is it that hard to imagine that...because that happed and has still happens today........
21 years in the military, I have seen women that can hold their weight....I have seen women who cannot....
My MOS 15U....it requires you to lift 25 lbs....you know why....thats how much the tool box weighs.....I have seen women who could not do that....
Some women can do it....i'm sure of it (become an Infantry person) other cannot....but you cannot drop the standards of infantry to faciliate a woman...
They do and I have met some of those "older" Marines that are just as hard, if not more so, than their fellow young Marines. We're a different breed, it's hard to define how we are. That's why I say that these broad brushed policies for the military are so challenging when you look at the differences between the military branches.
Well, according to this, they DO age norm, though they may not call it that:
Minimum Fitness Requirments for Each PFT Event - Males
Age Pull-Ups Crunches 3-Mile Run
17-26 3 50 28:00
27-39 3 45 29:00
40-45 3 45 30:00
46+ 3 40 33:00
Marine Corps PFT Classification Scores - Male and Female
Class Age 17-26 Age 27-39 Age 40-45 Age 46+
1st 225 200 175 150
2nd 175 150 125 100
3rd 135 110 88 65
Never heard of age norming. Marine Corps doesn't have that. I think, if you age and are not able to meet the physical requirements, you should also not be in that MOS.
Exactly. should we also norm for those with disabilities?
As a vet I saw my share of combat and took some hits. The hit was fairly significant causing some derious damage to my right shoulder and right hip. I have full range of motion and strength. But I do not have the endurance that I once enjoyed. It was decided that I was still fit enough to serve but not fit enough to continue doing what I was doing. I opted to part ways with the military. no regrets, other than I wished that I had, had more time to do the job.
war is a young persons game in the field and you need to be in peak physical condition. I always admired the marines because marines are universally fit compared to the other branches.
True story. Several years ago while at a 4th of July party a Marine was a few sheets to the wind. This guy was in his 40's and over weight also a smoker. Some guys were teasing him about his big gut. LOL me included.
He made a boast. He boasted that he had not ran a step since he left the corp 20 years before but he bet he could run non-stop up mile hill bottom to top. This road is a pretty good grade so people jumped on that bet. Not me. Because every Marine that I have ever known just won't quit when you put them into a cornor.
That fat old Marine ran the distance in 90+ degree heat non-stop. Thats why Marines get the job done.

Good post and quite true. I have seen the exact same when I was in the Marine Corps. You either can meet the standards or not; do not change them just to maintain this PC equality thing. Lives are on the line, it's too important to start with the PC nonsense.
Except as the current wars have shown, those rear echelon jobs aren't anymore....I met a NG guy a few years back at a party,he was just back from Iraq and had been escorting convoys and being involved in ground combat. He was Field Artillery.
The Marines believe every man(and woman) should be a rifleman....and that makes sense.
well.....
there are still REMF ( mostly the pencil pushers) jobs, but as far as the FA guy, since there is no direct combat operation and no need for direct support, the FA guys(and units) were temporarly re'set' as transportation and MP units
but the FA, and armor, and grunt units are still 'female exempt'

I love this post! Yes, I am a disabled vet now because my injury means that I cannot pass the physical requirements. I would have loved to stay in but I do understand the rationale. I could be a hindrance to my fellow Marines otherwise.
Should she be required to pass the same PT as her male counterparts?
Nope, she should have to pass a weight test......get the biggest person in an infantry unit (and most infantry guys are big with muscles not fat) and throw the standard pack on him and drag him 100yards....or so...while she has all her stuff on also....
