House GOP conservatives set to unveil $2.5 trillion in deep spending cuts | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment

Quote:
A number of the House GOP’s leading conservative members on Thursday will announce legislation that would cut $2.5 trillion over 10 years, which will be by far the most ambitious and far-reaching proposal by the new majority to cut federal government spending.
In an addition to individual program cuts, most of the savings would come from returning non-discretionary spending back to 2006 levels.

A good start, but they need to include Defense in there.

Sounds good to me. I disagree with getting rid of grants for mass public transit, but at least it gets the conversation started.

If the military cuts are not there they are just blowing hot air. The military is easily 40 percent of our budget (with the 'hidden' subbudgets in the Dep of Energey, etc...)

I like this;

House GOP Lists $2.5 Trillion in Spending Cuts - US News and World Report

Quote:
FY 2011 CR Amendment: Replace the spending levels in the FY 2011 continuing resolution (CR) with non-defense, non-homeland security, non-veterans spending at FY 2008 levels. The legislation will further prohibit any FY 2011 funding from being used to carry out any provision of the Democrat government takeover of health care, or to defend the health care law against any lawsuit challenging any provision of the act. $80 billion savings.
All the cuts are listed in the article.

Almost $1 Billion in obamacare administrative cost.

Quite an extensive list - a very good start indeed.

That is surely a good start.

I will have to see the exact cuts they are making but on the surface it does sound good. I do hope they include themselves in those federal employees not getting any raises. I agree our spending on Defence needs to be reformed, far far too much waste.

I have to see exactly what discretionary programs they are wanting to cut.

They should cut defense spending also though, thats one thing I can't support with this off the top.

Another, I think they should leave the subsidy for high speed rail, thats a job creator and something we can actually use.

But to give a truly informed opinion, I'll have to see the whole bill. I can't find the whole thing yet.

Your own article says that Boehner isn't behind this yet because of potential backlash.

I think a really good start would be to return spending back to 1980 levels at least

The Republican leadership is already talking backing away from cutting $100 billion. Cutting that much wouldn't probably get enough Republican votes, so my guess is that the cutting will be smaller. Still, it is a start.
